TheGoa Cricket Association (GCA) has expelled Ranji player Ganeshraj Narvekar forsix years after he was accused of forging a birth certificate to play in juniorlevel tournaments.
The decision by the GCA Monday came in the wake of a probe initiated into theissue of false birth certificates submitted by the player to qualify for juniorteams.
"The decision has been taken following the three member committee'sreport. There are several controversies surrounding the player and the issue offorged birth certificates which is being probed by the police is very, veryserious," GCA secretary Prasad Phatarpekar told reporters here.
Ganeshraj is the son of a powerful local politician Dayanand Narvekar, who wasthe head of the GCA in Goa for almost a decade and was also a vice president ofthe Board of Cricket Control in India.
Earlier this month, acting on GCA member Shekhar Salkar's complaint, the policefiled a chargesheet against Ganeshraj, his father, also a former deputy chiefminister and his mother for forging the certificates, which enabled the overaged cricketer to play in the junior inter-state tournaments.
