Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar Monday joined the social networking site Facebook, attracting over 4.4 lakh 'Likes' within a few hours.

Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar Monday joined the social networking site Facebook, attracting over 4.4 lakh 'Likes' within a few hours.

"I'll like to welcome you to my Facebook family. As a child, I always dreamt of playing cricket for India and I chased my dream of winning the World Cup for 22 years. It wouldn't have been possible without your support," read Tendulkar's account on the website.

His page also provided a link to www.sachinworld.com

"I wanna take this opportunity to thank all of you for having prayed for me and wish well for me. I look forward to sharing my experience with you, join me on my facebook (page) so that we both can share this experience and go through this journey together," he added.

Tendulkar already has an existing page on Facebook but it is managed by an agency appointed by him.

The icon informed the world about him joining Facebook through another social networking site Twitter where he is a regular.

He tweeted through his account ?@sachin_rt: "Dear friends, welcome to my facebook page. I hope you had the chance to go through it. If not join me on and be a part of this journey with me."
