1. Before making his ODI debut, Dhoni used to be a railway ticket checker at the Kharagpur Station from 2001 to 2003.

2. The wicketkeeper batsman from Ranchi made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2004, a debut which he want to forget as he was run out on the first ball.

3. Mahi’s long golden locks, which was his fashion statement from 2004 to mid-2007, were admired by former Pakistan President Parvez Musharraf when the Indian team toured Pakistan at 2006.

4. Dhoni is the only Indian captain to win all three major ICC tournaments: the inaugural World T20 (2007), 50 Over World Cup (2011) and the Champion’s Trophy (2013).

5. Dhoni is India’s most successful captain, as he guided his country to 27 test and163 ODI victories, Including the 2011 50-over World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy.

6. In 2007, Sachin Tendulkar who recommended MS Dhoni’s name for India’s skipper after Rahul Dravid's resignation post England tour that year, going by his calmness and friendly equation with the teammates.

8. Dhoni is the only player to win the ICC Player of the Year award, consecutively at 2008 and 2009. He also featured in ICC's World ODI XI from 2008 to 2014, apart from being selected in World Test XI at 2009, 2010 and 2013. He also won Rajiv Gandhi Khelratna, India's highest sports honour at 2008.

9. Although his family hails from Jamshedpur, Dhoni originally is a ‘Rajput’ from Uttarakhand.

17. MSD and Telugu actor Nagarjuna bought a Supersport World Championship team and named it Mahi Racing Team India. He also bought Hockey India League Franchise Ranchi Rays, along with Sahara India Pariwar, apart from having stakes in Abhishek Bachan's ISL team Chennayin FC.

18. Dhoni was only 10 short of a personal milestone of 100 test matches – a feat accomplished only by 10 other Indians, when he retired at December 2014 after the drawn Melbourne test against Aussies.

19. Dhoni's famous helicopter shot was taught by his friend and the former Jharkhand cricketer Santhosh Lal.

20. Dhoni's test highest of 224 runs against Aussies at Chepauk in Chennai, during Australia's four-test match tour of India during the summer of 2013, also became the highest individual total of any Indian captain at the game's longest format.
