U-17 World Cup: Chile cancel practice due to late arrival at hotel

KOLKATA: The Chile U-17 World Cup team cancelled their scheduled unofficial practice session at the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club (CCFC) grounds here as they arrived late on Sunday.

The 21-member Chile side landed in the city earlier in the day but got delayed in reaching their hotel, it was learnt.

Chile are here to take part in the FIFA U-17 World Cup starting from October 6. They play England in their Group F opener on October 8.

Besides Chile and England, Iraq and Mexico are the other two teams in the group. They will play their matches at the refurbished Salt Lake Stadium.

"They were scheduled to train at 4 p.m. but due to their late arrival at the hotel, cancelled their practice," a source said.

Meanwhile, Iraq are slated to arrive in the wee hours of Monday morning. They are also scheduled to train at the CCFC campus along with Chile on Monday.
