MADRID: Sevilla FC became the first Spanish club back in competitive action on Wednesday night when they defeated Ujpest 4-0 in the home leg of the first of three Europa League ties they must win in order to reach the group stage of the tournament.

Jesus Navas, Pablo Sarabia, Wissam Ben Yedder and Fran Vazquez scored the goals to condemn the Hungarian side to defeat, giving Sevilla coach Pablo Machin his first win since leaving Girona to join the club at the end of last season, reports Xinhua news agency.

"It's satisfying to start my time at Sevilla in that way. I think the team did what it had to do," said Machin after the game.

"Maybe we could have scored more goals, but I asked the players to give everything and that is what they have done," continued the Sevilla boss, who said he had no reasons to complain about the display.

"We have fulfilled our objective which was to take an advantage into the second leg and we can't deny that a 4-0 win makes things easier for us. The team has played as I wanted them to and it's obvious that if we want to do well, we have to play with quality and as a team," he concluded.
