LONDON: Watford have signed defender Marc Navarro from Espanyol for an undisclosed fee, the English Premier League club announced Friday.

The 22-year-old Spaniard, who rose through the youth ranks at Barcelona, has joined the Hornets on a five-year deal.

Watford chairman Scott Duxbury told the club's website: "Marc has attracted interest from a host of top European clubs, therefore we are delighted to have secured his services."

Navarro, a full-back or centre-half, left Barcelona for city rivals Espanyol aged 16.

He made his La Liga debut in January 2017, scoring in a 3-1 victory over Granada and went on to make 36 appearances.

Earlier this week, Watford reached an agreement to sign midfielder Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona for an initial 13 million euros (£11.47 million) following a successful loan spell last season.

Watford have also taken up the option of a one-year contract extension for defender Miguel Britos.
