Lack of transport snaps local buzz feed in Assam

GUWAHATI: Gateway to the region fast becoming the epicentre of football in India, the principal city of Assam has not perhaps warmed up enough for the show going on at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium. Average attendance at the venue locally referred to as Sarasujai Stadium that can accommodate close to 23,000 has been around 12,000 for the seven matches it has hosted so far.

The U-17 World Cup is turning out to be a different experience because of a few reasons. Location of stadium, not enough public transport, absence of stars and logistical inadequacies like no parking for spectators are prominent among those.

This makes the situation different from ISL matches held at the same venue. For those games, vehicles can be parked outside the entrance, which has not been allowed for the World Cup, due to security reasons.
