KOCHI: Asian Championship gold medallist and Olympian Manpreet Kaur has tested positive during an in-competition test conducted by the National Anti-doping Agency. The 26-year-old’s samples taken during the Federation Cup in Patiala in the first week of June contained 1,3-dimethylbutylamine.
It’s not banned, but categorised by WADA as a specified substance under its 2017 revised list. Because of this, she has not been handed a provisional ban.
The outcome of a NADA panel hearing would decide the fate of the gold she won in the recent Asian Championship. It’s not clear if her participation in the London World Championship would be affected.
Abbreviated as DMBA, the chemical acts as an adrenergic beta-agonist, which leads to increased fat burning.
It also relaxes muscles as well as increasing blood pressure and heart beat. Anti-doping agencies of several countries had warned athletes to maintain caution while ingesting supplements after discovering that a huge number of food supplements contained traces of DMBA.
“Manpreet has tested positive in a test conducted during the Federation Cup. Her urine sample was found to have stimulant dimethylbutylamine,” an AFI official was quoted as saying. NADA officials told Express this was the last of the three adverse reports from the Federation Cup.
