Sourabh Verma, Manjunath enter Russian Open Badminton Tournament semis

VLADIVOSTOK: Indian shuttlers Sourabh Verma and Manjunath won their respective matches in the men's singles event here on Friday at the Russian Open Badminton Tournament entering into the semi-final while Shubankar Dey was beaten by Russian player Malkov.

Sourabh defeated Israel's Zilberman 21-14, 21-16 finishing the game in just 36 minutes progressing to semi-finals and will take on fellow Indian Mithun Manjunath.

While Manjunath showed no mercy and thrashed Malaysian opponent S Ramachandran 21-18, 21-12 wrapping up the game in 35 minutes.

In the women's singles Ritapurna Das lost her match to I Wang of Malaysia 17-21, 13-21 while V Gummadi was defeated by Malaysia's Ho Y M 21-9, 21-11 ending their campaign in the tournament.

In the mixed doubles section, R Kapoor and K Garg outplayed their Russian opponents Loginov and Abibulaeva 21-13,21-9 marching into the semi-finals.

They next play Malaysian pair of Chen Tang Jie and Peck Yen Wei.
