HYDERABAD: Six irrigation projects being constructed under Jalayagnam in the State will be named after famous personalities. The State Cabinet which met here today, has decided to rename the Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi project as Dr BR Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi project.

The Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi project will be named after Babu Jagjivan Ram, the Telugu Ganga project after NT Rama Rao and the Dummagudem-Nagarjuna Sagar project will be renamed as Mahatma Jyothi Rao Pule Dummagudem- Nagarjuna Sagar Sujala Sravanthi. Similarly, the PADA (Pulivendula) Lift Irrigation Scheme and the Galeru-Nagari project will be named after Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy and Sri Krishna Devaraya respectively.

Other irrigation projects to be named after prominent persons are: Hyderabad-Godavari Water Supply scheme to be named as Moulana Abdul Kalam Hyderabad-Sujala Sravanthi, Kanthalapalli Lift Irrigation Scheme as PV Narasimha Rao Kanthalapalli Sujala Sravanthi, and Srisailam Right Bank Canal as Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Srisailam Right Bank Canal.

Sources said that a special directorate at the State-level for integrated development of tribals will be formed for the welfare of tribals living in plain areas with project officers at district level.

Several departments including agriculture, housing, education and health will be part of the new initiatives to be taken up for welfare of tribals.

The Cabinet is learnt to have discussed amendment to the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act and pass the bill during the Assembly session which would facilitate the State Government raise a loan of Rs.16,000 crore to fund irrigation projects.

However, a final decision is yet to be taken in this regard, sources said. The Cabinet has accorded permission to APTransco to pool up Rs 350 crore through sale of bonds for raising capital.

A resolution was passed transferring 323.74 acre Government land at Chilamattur in Anantapur district to Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for the development of an industrial park.

It has also approved transferring land to APSRTC for bus complexes at Terlam and Chipurupalli in Vizianagaram district and to Andhra Pradesh Housing Corporation at Bandlaguda, Allapur and Bahadurpura in Rangareddy district for the Rajiv Swagruha scheme.

The State Cabinet passed a resolution condemning the attack on Mumbai and expressed condolences to victims and paid homage to the martyrs who died fighting the terrorists.

The Cabinet mourned the death of former prime minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh.
