VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), today, directed all DCC/CCC presidents in the areas that go to polls in the second phase of elections on April 23 to take disciplinary action against those who are working against the official candidates with immediate effect.

It also asked them to send a report with the list of names of those who are above the rank of Mandal Congress Committee president and PCC delegates, to PCC and also make public the disciplinary action initiated against them.

Following the orders of APCC president, D Srinivas, Vijayawada City Congress Committee president, Pyla Somi Naidu, initiated disciplinary action against rebel candidates in the city and expelled Jaleel Khan and Appikatla Jawahar from the party with immediate effect.

Somi Naidu said Congress leader Jaleel Khan was in the fray as a rebel from the Vijayawada West Assembly constituency and was working against party’s official candidate Mallika Begum.

Though the party High Command had requested him to withdraw from contest, Jaleel Khan was still working against the official candidate. Therefore, APCC had decided to expel him from the party, Somi Naidu said.

Somi Naidu further said the party had also expelled Appikatla Jawahar and issued show-cause notices to some more leaders who were working against the official candidates.
