The State has created one more history by giving an opportunity to woman IPS officer R Jaya Lakshmi to lead the ceremonial parade at the 63rd Independence
Day celebrations held at Secunderabad Parade Grounds.
Jaya Lakshmi, a 2006-batch officer of IPS, currently working as Assistant Superintendent of Police at Siddipet achieved this rare distinction.
Of the 19 contingents which were present in the March Past, 11th battalion of APSP, Bakarapet of Kadapa district has bagged the first prize under `armed’ contingent category, while the AP social welfare residential eductional institutional
society has received the first prize under `unarmed’ category. Consolation prize was given to Gurukulam school.

display of `Jaiho and Janapada’songs.
At the end of celebrations, the Chief Minister presented mementoes and certificates to best schools of the year 2008-09.
AP Residential School of Nagarjunasagar in Nalgonda district was selected best school under category-I, Government ZPP and Municipal School of
Uppur village in West Godavari and Sasivelu school, a private aided school in West Godavari, were selected under category II and III, respectively.
