SANGAREDDY: Knowing farming techniques is just a call away. From now onwards, farmers can obtain information on modern farming methods by simply making a call. The officials have arranged toll-free numbers at the district headquarters for this purpose.

The programme launched by the Horticulture Department is aimed at diverting the farmers from cultivating the conventional crops to growing orchards, vegetables and flowering plants as they are more profitable.

The shifting of cultivation, officials felt, would help farmer overcome financial troubles being incurred due to the routine crops.

Speaking to this paper, District Horticulture Department joint director MKV Srinivasulu said that farmers can seek technical information on growing fruit orchards, vegetables and flowering plants from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily by dialling 1800-425-0040 or 1800-425-0080.

He said their department would not confine itself to giving suggestions and information but also distribute tomato, ladysfinger, bitter gourd, ridge gourd, onion and bottle gourd seeds. The farmers need not come to the district headquarters for the seeds. It will be sufficient if they can contact the mandal Horitculture officials, he said. For additional information on seeds, the farmers can contact Department office at the district headquarters on phone number 08455-277042.
