HYDERABAD: Taking exception to Leader of the Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu’s demand for the resignation of Chief Minister K Rosaiah on the Obulapuram mining controversy, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today said that the former chief minister would be held responsible in case of any irregularities committed by the OMC since it was he who had issued the mining lease to OMC owner Gali Janardhan Reddy during his rule.

Addressing a press conference at the CLP office here, Government Whip S Sailajanath, along with whip K Murali Mohan, Legislative Council whip Sivaramireddy and others, asserted that all facts would come out after completion of the CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities by OMC.

They charged that corruption was standardised in the State during the nine-year rule of Chandrababu Naidu.

In fact, the Opposition leader had no other subject to talk on and, therefore, was raking up the mining issue in the hope of reaping electoral benefits. But The the GHMC elections would teach a Naidu a lesson, he said.

The CLP leaders said the Congress was ready to discuss the issues looked into by the Somasekhara Commission and the booklets published by the Left parties against the then chief minister Naidu.

They would have welcomed the Opposition parties had they asked for nationalisation of Reliance Gas, Ramoji’s assets etc, the Congress leaders said and quipped that there would be improvement in State politics if leaders like Chandrababu Naidu quit the political arena.

At another press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Panchayat Raj Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, Endowments Minister Gade Venkat Reddy and others lashed out at Chandrababu Naidu for blaming the State Election Commission and the State Government with regard to conduct of GHMC polls. Fearing defeat in the elections, Naidu had raked up the OMC issue during electioneering knowing fully well that it was a dispute between two companies.
