HYDERABAD: Justice P Swaroop Reddy of the High Court today stayed the arrest of Kavita, daughter of TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao.

This follows registration of a suo motu case by the Kalwakurty police in Mehboobnagar district against Kavita.

The Banjara Hills police station had registered a case against Kavita for alleged inflammatory statements at the time of the release of the Telugu film, Adhurs.

She had moved the High Court even earlier against the complaint registered at the Banjara Hills police station.

In the present petition, she complained that despite the earlier order by the High Court, the Kalwakurty police registered a case against her.

Speaking to Express, Kavita’s counsel Satyam Reddy said it remained to be seen if his client would now be required to approach the court for every suo motu complaint registered by different police stations across the State.

Bail in riots case: Court seeks student’s financial status

Justice B Chandrakumar adjourned to Monday hearing of the bail application of a 21-year-old student, Mallikarjun, who has been in jail for the last 36 days for allegedly causing damage to property during the ongoing Telangana agitation.

The judge wanted Satyam Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, to ascertain the financial background of the petitioner.

Earlier, the judge had sought to impose a condition requiring Mallikarjun to deposit a sum of Rs 1 lakh as fine towards a lost cost. The counsel objected to the procedure contending that it would set a wrong precedent and also that his Dalit client did not have the wherewithal.
