PUTTAPARTHI (ANANTAPUR): No one can miss to notice in her face the strange mix of weariness from attending on Sathya Sai Baba for the past 25 days and the agony over his death.

When Baba’s end came, industries minister J Geeta Reddy could not control her emotions. She has been in close association with him since 1996 when she returned from the US. An uncontrollable Geeta Reddy said, fighting her tears: “The world has lost a great humanitarian and spiritual guru. I cannot believe he is no more. He spread love and peace to all.”

When Sathya Saibaba was hospitalised, she could not stay in Hyderabad anymore.

She rushed to Puttaparthi and has been there till Sunday, talking to the doctors and trust members over the kind of treatment being given to him and how he was making progress.

In the last 25 days she slept very little and led a very disturbed life.

Her daily routine has been to go to the hospital where Baba was being treated at 9 am sharp every day and stay till the evening knowing about the Sai’s health with doctors from time to time.

She coordinated with the state government and brought a team of doctors to Puttaparthi. At a recent briefing she broke down while explaining the health condition of Satya Sai Baba and hoped that Sai would recover from the ill health.

When she became tourism and IT minister in 2004, she visited Sai Baba every week. She participated in the bhajans and other programmes.

She supervised construction of the Rs 3-crore Sai Aram guest house at Puttaparthi. She also took the initiative for the sanction of Rs 12-crore Shilparamam in the town.

The other developmental works taken up at Geetha Reddy’s initiative included a 7-km-long four-lane road from the Mamillakunta Cross to Puttaparthi, Gorantla-Puttaparthi double road, Dharmavaram-Puttaparthi double road and an outer ring road for Puttaparthi town.
