VIJAYAWADA: Modern Telugu poet Vegunta Mohan Prasad, popularly known as ‘Mo’, passed away on Tuesday night. He was 69. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

Mohan Prasad who was born on January 5, 1942 at Lam in Guntur, settled in Vijayawada. He served as the head of department of English in Siddhartha College till July 31, 2000. He also headed the translation wing of Dravidian University for three years.

He earned fame by translating English, Russian and French literary works into Telugu. He did several experiments in Telugu poetry. His writings are widely acclaimed by literary critics. Vegunta received Tanikella Bharani Sahiti Puraskaram last year.

Cine actor and writer Tanikella Bharani and several other writers visited his house and consoled the bereaved family. As per Vegunta’s last wish, his eyes and other organs were donated to Mohan Foundation of Hyderabad by his family members.
