VIJAYAWADA: A group of social activists from Andhra and Telangana regions will hold a meeting at Kandukuri Kalyana Mandapam in Gandhinagar on Sunday to discuss the issue of state bifurcation.

The meeting proposed by the social activists in the city in July, was cancelled due to stiff opposition from Samaikyandhra activists.

Virasam leader G Kalyana Rao, MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga, POW leader Sandhya, Telangana United Front co-chairperson Vimala and Samajika Jai Andhra— Telangana convenor U Sambasiva Rao will take part in the meeting. Some local BC, SC, ST and minority leaders and advocates will also attend the meeting.

Samaikyandhra activists demanded that the police deny permission for the meeting, while the social activists are planning to hold similar meetings in Guntur, Ongole, Nellore, Rajahmundry and Eluru to mobilise people’s support for bifurcation of the state.

The organisers filed a petition in the High Court seeking a direction to the city police commissioner to grant permission for the meeting.

The court asked the police to consider giving permission for the meeting if there was no law and order problem in the city.
