HYDERABAD: Police foiled a bid by about 400 Hindu activists to barge into the city police commissioner's office at Basheerbagh here on Tuesday demanding police commissioner AK Khan's resignation for alleged bias against Hindus.
Carrying BJP flags and shouting 'Jai Sriram', they jostled with the policemen and tried to jump over the main gate. The protestors rained stones at the cops injuring two, including a Task Force man and damaging the window panes.
Police beat up some of them and arrested all the protesters who were drawn from the Hindu Vahini, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party. The hourlong dharna caused traffic snarls in and around the area.
The protesters alleged that Khan had been biased against Hindus and their programmes and cited denial of permission for conducting Ayyappa puja at the Lal Bahadur Stadium and other Hindu events. In November, Khan permitted Christian groups to conduct programmes at LB Stadium, J Ranga Reddy, BJP state Trade Cell convener, alleged. Khan arrested innocent workers of the VHP, HV, RSS and ABVP and was harassing them, the activists said and accused Khan of being an agent of MIM.
