SANGAREDDY: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today assured the farmers in the state free power supply for the farming sector till the year 2014, when his government completes the term.

Reddy said that despite the Planning Commission's objections to the Free Power policy of the states, his government continued with the scheme.

"State Government is spending Rs 27,700 crore on free power scheme and ready to spend more for the welfare of farmers in the state," Reddy said.

"We have purchased 1000 MW in March and 800 MW in April.

If necessary we will impose some new taxes to garner more funds for the welfare of farmers and agriculture sector," he added.

Reddy was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating 'Rythu Chaitanya Yatra' at Ismail Khan Pet village near here today afternoon.
