SANGAREDDY: Tension is prevailed in Siddipet town on Sunday when a group of people, belonging to a community, took to flash attacks injuring 20 people and damaging 20 vehicles.

Police resorted to lathicharge several times to bring the situation under control.

SP P J Victor is camping in the town and Sec 144 has been imposed.

According to the police, members of the group, carrying weapons, came on to the road early in the morning and began beating passers-by indiscriminately alleging that their rivals, during a procession on Saturday night, tore their religious book.

They even attacked shops which were open and vehicles parked beside the road.

They also attacked women buying vegetables at rythu bazar in the town and strew vegetables on roads.

When media personnel tried to take video of the melee, the protestors attacked and injured three of them.

Soon scribes staged a rasta roko at Ambedkar crossroads in protest against the attack and the protestors tried to assault them again.

At this juncture, police entered the scene and caned the protestors during which an APSP cop hit a journalist and injured him.

Later, the APSP police apologised to the scribes.

Not stopping at this, the protestors tried to attack a place of worship in the town.

And members of the other group also came on to the roads.

Police resorted to lathicharge again.
