VISAKHAPATNAM: Two Maoists were killed Thursday in an exchange of fire between Greyhounds and extremists at Lavvasingi village in Chintapalli mandal of the district. While the deceased are yet to be identified, the police recovered 16 kit bags from the spot.

According to the information reaching here, the greyhounds bounced upon a group of 10-15 Maoists belonging to the first CRC company dalam in the morning hours today during their combing operations in the forests near Lavvasingi village. In no time, the extremists opened fire on the Greyhounds and the latter retaliated.

The exchange of fire occurred around 7 am and continued for about half-hour.

Additional superintendent of police-Chintapalle, Gopinath Jetti confirmed the incident and said the police couldn’t reach the spot till noon since the forests were dense and remote.

The identification of the two deceased Maoists is yet unknown, the ASP added. The bodies of the extremists were not shifted till the latest reports arrived and are likely to be taken to Paderu for postmortem.
