Poleramma Jatara: Sacrifice of buffaloes to be probed

Express News Service

Superintendent of police Ramanakumar had ordered an enquiry to find out if any buffalo sacrifice took place during the Poleramma Jatara at Venkatagiri on Thursday, following reports to that effect in a section of the press. Action would be taken against the guilty based on the enquiry report, he said.

Meanwhile, Sri Dayanand Swamy, founder of Viswa Prani Kalyana Mandal, said they have successfully prevented animal sacrifice in the temple during the Jatara this year. The festival concluded without any animal sacrifice inside the shrine, mainly due to their intensive campaigning 10 days ahead of the jatara, he said.

He urged the administration to prevent animal slaughter on a permanent basis at all temples in Nellore district and wanted similar measures to check cow slaughter during the coming Bakrid festival
