With just two days to go for the deadline to complete the syllabi in government and aided colleges, not even 30 per cent of the syllabi has been completed, to the utter dismay and consternation of the students. Blame it on the Samaikyandhra agitation or the negligence of the faculty/ officials—they are not making any effort to complete the syllabi—the students has been left in the lurch.
As per the academic calendar, the syllabi of degree courses should be completed by December 28. Revision should start on January 16, after the Sankranti vacations. However, only 30 per cent of the syllabi has been completed in the government and aided degree colleges.
According to officials, in some of the colleges, syllabi of some streams have not even been started till date.
The district has 120 degree colleges, including 18 government colleges. More than 48,000 students are studying in these colleges. Majority of colleges are are affiliated to the SV University.
Due to Samaikhyandhra agitation and various other reasons, the colleges remained shut for more than two months. The participation of government lecturers in the bandh for Samaikyandhra, has derailed the academic schedule.
Even after the agitation ended, the officials did not bother to take any steps for the speedy completion of the syllabus, students allege.
With this, some of the students have shifted to private colleges and some streams/courses in the degree colleges are now left without any student. For example, in the PV Kannan Degree College in Chittoor, the economics stream/wing has been closed with no student coming forward to take the subject. In some cases, there are no lecturers to conduct classes.
Praveen Kumar Reddy, a student, said even if they went to college there were no lecturers. Speaking to Express, regional joint director of education A Krishnamurthy said he had started to monitor the activities of the degree colleges.
