IPS officer suspended for nexus with train robbers

 A promotee IPS officer who allegedly collected mamools from train offenders and is also said to have had a share in the stolen property, has been placed under suspension.

 The government issued the suspension order on Monday against Dr M Naganna after he was prima facie found to be involved in corrupt practices while working as SP, Railways, in Vijayawada.

 Naganna, a state police services officer, is presently posted as DCP, City Armed Reserve (CAR) in Hyderabad.

 He has also been entrusted with the work of DCP, City Security Wing (CSW), which caters to the security of VIPs.

 “It has been brought to the notice of the government that Dr. M.  Naganna, DCP, CAR, formerly superintendent of Railway Police, Vijayawada has prima facie indulged in corrupt practices while working as superintendent of Railway Police.

 He is placed under suspension in public interest with immediate effect, pending initiation of disciplinary proceedings,” the GO issued by the state government said.

Sources disclosed to Express that while Naganna was working as SP, Railways, there were allegations against him including collection of bribes from offenders who used to commit robberies in trains.

 When the matter reached higher-ups, an enquiry was conducted by senior IPS officer VSK Kaumudi, who was then additional DGP, Railways.

 “It was found that he had collected huge money from certain gangs who used to commit offences in trains. He also had a share in the stolen property,” sources said.  Naganna was then transferred to Hyderabad. When contacted, Naganna denied the allegations and said he will comment only after going through the enquiry report.

 The government has placed Naganna under suspension under the powers conferred under Rule 3 (1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.

 During suspension, he will be paid subsistence allowance as is admissible under Rule 4 of the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules.

 He will also have to stay in Hyderabad and not leave the headquarters without prior permission from the government.
