Following the announcement by the Congress favouring separate statehood to Telangana on Tuesday, supporters of united Andhra Pradesh took to streets protesting division of the state.
Samaikyandhra JAC led by its chairman Kakaravada and others burnt UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in effigy at various places across the district. The protesters also covered the statues of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi in Kurnool town with black cloth. They demanded the resignation of Seemandra ministers, MPs and MLAs and called for a bandh on Wednesday.
In Kurnool, lawyers boycotted courts and held a demonstration. Kurnool is represented in Lok Sabha by Union minister of state for railways K Suryaprakash Reddy. Earlier, students JAC leaders took out a protest rally and converged at the Telugu Talli statue demanding the resignation of elected representatives.
Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi president Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy called upon all Rayalaseema leaders to oppose the Centre’s decision on Telangana and fight for the formation of a Greater Rayalaseema state. Byreddy said that Congress is giving Telangana only to come to power in 2014.
Protests were also held in Nandyal and Adoni in Rayalaseema.
