AP Express to be Called Telangana Express

Express News Service

HYDERABAD: It’s official. The AP Express will be called Telangana Express from November 15 onwards.

The Telangana government has been demanding for the change of name as the super fast train went as AP Express in the combined state. After bifurcation, TRS government made the demand to change the name of the express train as the train, at any point of its journey from Hyderabad-New Delhi, does not pass through Andhra Pradesh. Moreover, it wanted the train that connects Hyderabad with the national capital to be named after Telangana, and not the neighbouring AP. Even chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had taken up the issue with Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu, earlier.

To avoid confusion, the present Telangana Express, which runs between Hyderabad and Sirpur Kagaznagar (Adilabad), will be named after tribal leader Komaram Bheem.

It may be recalled that AP government has also been demanding that a new AP Express be introduced between Vishakapatnam and New Delhi.
