RAJAHMUNDRY: The government would develop the historical city of Rajahmundry as the cultural capital of Andhra Pradesh. Even as it is already popular for music, cultural and literary events for several centuries now, the city would be developed into a centre for promotion of Telugu culture, arts, literature and tourism, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said.

Delivering a keynote address at a seminar on ‘Telugu History and Culture’ organised by the information and public relations department here Friday, Chandrababu Naidu said that the island villages in river Godavari would be developed as tourism destinations to attract investments to Rajahmundry, thereby paving the way for the city’s development in various sectors. “The government has decided to promote Telugu language and its culture in a big way. Though the Telugu areas were divided, the culture of Telugus remains the same,” he added.

Recalling the services of noted people who promoted Telugu and its culture, he recollected that former chief minister late NT Rama Rao had brought recognition to the Telugu people across the world. Naidu appealed to the scholars and academicians to work for the welfare and development of the Telugu community for which the government would extend full support.

There are enough resources in the state and the government would give equal importance to financial development as well conservation of the culture and art of Telugu, he added.
