Naxal Leader Rajanna, 10 Others Held

KURNOOL (AP): In a big blow to CPI-ML (Janashakti), police have arrested party leader Kura Rajanna and 10 others while they were busy chalking out plenary of their party in a house at Bollavaram in Kallur mandal in the district.

The police team led by DSP B V Ramana Murthy also seized some key records, documents and other materials from them.

According to SP A Ravi Krishna, the CPI-ML (Janashakti) leaders and workers have been active in the district for the last few years under the leadership of Rajanna.

It was keen on raising funds through extortion and procuring weapons for their activities. The party activists had been threatening landlords and businessmen and were extorting money from them.

On Monday night, at least 20 activists met at Bollavaram to discuss arrangements for the party’s plenary. On information, the policemen raided their meeting place and foiled their plans.

The SP said Vadde Pothanna and Boya Sunkanna, who were among the arrested, were also accused in a case of threatening and collecting money from Venkateswara Reddy belonging to Banganapalle.

A few others were accused in several cases of violence and arson in various places in West Godavari and other districts.
