VIJAYAWADA: Elaborate arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of MCET-AC (Medical Colleges Entrance Test of Associate Colleges) at 43 test centres in 30 cities across the country on Saturday.
Briefing newsmen here Friday about the exam and arrangements made, NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) vice-chancellor T Ravi Raju said that it was for the first time that management seats were being filled through an entrance exam so as to make admission process more transparent.
The computer-based exam will be of three hours duration and will commence at 2:30 p.m. “As many as 6,464 candidates will write the exam seeking admissions in 14 private medical colleges including one minority college and 13 dental colleges including one minority college. The number of ‘B’ category seats in these colleges stand at 980 for medical and 385 for dental courses,” he explained.
The first key will be released at 7 pm within couple of hours after the completion of the exam. Candidates can submit their objections, if any over the questions, online till June 1. The objections raised will be taken into account on June 2 before releasing the final key. Results and merit list will be issued on June 4. Counselling will be held at NTRUHS in July-August after completion of the EAMCET counselling.
“At the behest of the private colleges, we are conducting the exam, for which the question paper is also being set by an expert team from the varsity. Software support for conducting the online exam will be provided by a reputed company.
Questions, release of the key and results will be online. Entire setup is being made to ensure there is absolute transparency,” he informed.
In Vijayawada, the test centres were set up at KBN College, Potti Sriramulu Chalavadi Mallikharjuna Rao College of Engineering and Technology, MRI Group Engineering College and DVR College of Technology. Four centres were set up in Hyderabad, three each in Visakhapatnam and Guntur apart from other parts of the state. Test centres were also set up in Bengaluru, Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Coimbatore, New Delhi and Bhubaneswar. Observers from NTRUHS will monitor the exam in all centres. In view of the announcements made by some student organisations to obstruct the exam, the varsity has approached the police department and made elaborate security arrangements at the test centres, he added.
