Dental Student Held for Bid to Rape Collegemate

VIJAYAWADA: In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old BDS student allegedly attempted to rape his college mate by barging into her room in Radhakrishna apartment of Srinivasa Nagar under Patama police limits in the small hours of Sunday.

According to the Patamata police, the girl was a final year student of BDS at Government Dental College here and was living in a room at Radhakrishna apartments. The accused P Sridhar (23) and the victim also a 23-year-old, were classmates till BDS third year, but Sridhar was detained, as he failed to clear some subjects.

As they were classmates, Sridhar reportedly teased the victim and sent her inappropriate messages over phone and facebook. On Sunday at around 2:30 am, Sridhar in an inebriated condition came to the apartment of the victim. He tried to call her over mobile, but when there was no answer, he knocked on the door.

When she opened the door, he barged inside and tried to outrage her modesty. She struggled to escape him and finally managed to push him out of the door. Later in the morning, she lodged a complaint with the Patamata police.

Registering a case against the accused under IPC Sec 452, 354/c, 376 rw 511, the police sent the victim for medical examination and arrested the accused after a brief search.
