Express News Service

VIJAYAWADA: Congress leader and former MLA Malladi Vishnu, accused in the infamous Krishnalanka liquor tragedy, has been remanded to police custody for four days from January 14.

The city court dealing with the petition seeking policy custody of Vishnu by the police department on Wednesday allowed the petition and granted police custody for four days.  However, the hearing on Vishnu’s bail petition was adjourned to January 18, a day after his police custody ends.

Named as A9 in the case, the Congress leader was on the run for nearly one month after the tragedy on December 7, which claimed five lives. The Swarna Bar in Krishnalanka, where the spurious liquor was sold leading to the deaths, was partly owned by the family members of Vishnu.

Recently, after much drama, he had testified before Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the case and was later arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Stating that they need to further question him in the case, the police sought his custody and the same was granted.

Meanwhile, the cops are also making progress into call money-sex racket and one of the key accused, P Srikanth was taken into custody. However, they are yet to confirm the same and his arrest is likely to be made public after the festival.
