Express News Service

VIJAYAWADA: Mahesh Chandra Laddha assumed office as Additional Commissioner of Police for Vijayawada City on Friday.

He met Commissioner of Police D Gautam Sawang and assumed charge. In a brief interaction with mediapersons at the Commissionerate, he said he would give his best and would strive to protect the law and order. On the Krishnalanka liquor tragedy, he said a chargesheet would be filed soon. Even the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report is ready, he added.

Additional commissioner’s post was created by the State Government in view of the growing importance of the city as the temporary seat of administration for the State. Since the Commissioner of Police has additional DG rank, an IG rank officer has been appointed as the additional police commissioner.

Sources said that two more IPS officers will be shortly posted in the city as Joint Commissioner of Police - a DIG rank post and a Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) which will be of the SP rank. Already there are two DCPs, one for the administration and one for law and order in Vijayawada.

After these postings, the city will be divided into two sectors for effective maintenance of law and order, each headed by a DCP (L&O). In recent months, the pressure on the police department has also increased due to heavy VIP traffic.
