VISAKHAPATNAM: A day after the state government issued a three-day heatwave alert, weathermen on Sunday said mercury levels would rise by 2°C to 3°C in the next two days. Majority coastal AP recorded maximum day temperatures above normal by 2°C to 3°C on Sunday, while dry weather prevailed over Rayalaseema. Kurnool recorded a maximum of 43°C, highest in AP.
On Saturday 41 mandals in the state experienced severe heatwave conditions and 282 saw heatwave conditions. Weathermen blamed it on the waning of western disturbances which resulted in rain at a few places. On Sunday, Araku in Vizag recorded a rainfall of 1 cm.
However, officials said IMD issued warning now and is yet to declare heatwave officially.
