KURNOOL: A twelve-year-old boy who was confined in a locked house by his uncle and aunt for the past five days was rescued by the police, at Nandyal of Kurnool district on Thursday.

According to the police, the boy, identified as Rehan, is a native of Kadiri village in Anantapur district. Rehan's aunt Salma, younger sister of his mother, brought him home after the death of his parents Baba and Reshma a year ago.

On Sunday, Salma and her husband Suleiman went outside after locking Rehan in the house and have not returned since then. After spending five days in the house, Rehan climbed up to the window and yelled out for help. Hearing him screaming, the neighbours alerted the police.

Nandyal III-Town CI S Ismail said that they received a call from the residents of Sai Baba Nagar. "We found the boy peeping out of a window of the house. With the help of local residents, we broke open the door and rescued him," the CI said, adding that the boy used the eatables available in the house to survive.
The police have intimated Rehan's relatives at Kadiri about the incident. "The relatives are on their way to Nandyal and the boy will be handed over to them," the CI said, adding that Salma and Suleiman were absconding and their cellphones were out of the mobile network coverage area, the CI added.

A case under the Sections 347 and 307 of the IPC have been registered and further investigation is on.
