KURNOOL: Cattamanchi Ramalingareddy Memorial Residential Private School here remained tense on Saturday following the alleged suicide of 15-year-old Sugali Preethibai who was a Class X student.
Members of several student organizations including SFI, AISF, Tribal Students Association and her family members staged a dharna at the Collectorate holding the college management responsible for the girl’s death. They had earlier staged a protest on the school premises, damaging furniture and the school management's vehicle.

Preethibai allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in the school’s hostel using a towel. On being alerted, the school management tried to shift the body to a government hospital for autopsy without intimating the girl’s parents. But word got out and the distraught parents of the deceased rushed to the school and fought with the management alleging that se was sexually harassed and that her death was not a suicide.

Her relatives and students then sat on a dharna at the Collectorate with the body. The deceased girl’s uncle Ram Chandra Naik said she was sexually assaulted and killed by school correspondent N Janardhan Reddy and his two sons. “After raping her on Friday night, they killed and hanged her to the ceiling fan to make it look like she had hanged herself,” he alleged and demanded that the government seal the school.
