GUNTUR: The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has conducted a survey on tap connections to supply drinking water 24x7 in the city.
Based on the survey findings, the GMC will evolve a perspective plan to meet the drinking water needs of households. Laying of a 30 km long drinking water pipeline is in progress in the city to ensure round the clock of supply of water to households.
It has been proposed to provide tap connections to each and every house in the city under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Andhra Pradesh Municipal Development Project (APMDP).
Guntur is one of among the 31 cities from Andhra Pradesh selected for implementation of AMRUT. The Apex Committee of AMRUT approved the State Annual Action Plan for the year 2015-16 and the State Level High Powered Steering Committee (SHPSC) sanctioned Rs 22.52 crore for the GMC for the development of basic infrastructure in the city.
According to GMC Executive Engineer A Lakshmaiah, there are 86,148 domestic tap connections and 2,542 metered connections in the city. A total of 78,002 tap connections need to be provided to the households in the city. Out of the total, 21,100 tap connections will be provided under APMDP and the remaining 56,902 under AMRUT.
Municipal Commissioner Ch Anuradha said: “New tap connections will be provided to citizens after strengthening the water distribution network in the city.”
