KURNOOL: Memos were served to around 50 doctors of Kurnool Government General Hospital on Tuesday for arriving late for duty and inconveniencing patients who travel long distances to the hospital.

Hospital Superintendent J Veeraswamy, took serious view of the doctors’ negligence and sought an explanation as to why action should not be initiated against them. The doctors were asked to reply within seven days, failing which stringent action would be initiated against them for negligence towards duties.

The Kurnool General Hospital is one of the oldest teaching hospitals in the State, and draws nearly 2,500 out-patients every day. Patients from Rayalaseema, Prakasam as well as the border areas of Telangana and Karnataka undergo treatment at the hospital, which has 36 speciality services with 1050 beds and around 350 doctors, including hospital superintendent J Veeraswamy.

There have been several complaints against the doctors over their absence from their seat after signing the attendance register. Following the complaints, J Veeraswamy identified the erring doctors and issued them memos, seeking an explanation for their negligence.
