A 52-year-old man, who impersonated as an official of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been arrested by police in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

HYDERABAD: A 52-year-old man, who impersonated as an official of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been arrested by police in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The accused, who was carrying `26 lakh cash with him, wanted to evade the checking by the Air Intelligence Unit officials at the airport.Accused Machanavajjula Nageshwar Rao (52) of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh worked as accounts manager in a private company. 

As the company closed in 2014, he joined another company but was dismissed for his ill-health. With no money for his survival, Rao started impersonating as deputy chief investigation officer in Central Bureau of Investigation using a fake identity card. Using that, he developed acquaintance with an employee at Panchayat Raj department in AP and looked after some official works at AP Secretariat. 

The Police said Machanavajjula Nageshwar Rao, a native of Vijayawada arrived at RGIA on an Air India aircraft AI-480. “When security officials enquired about the amount. Rao showed a fake ID card of the CBI department. Upon enquiry, the CBI said there was no official with such a name, hence he was intercepted,” the police said. The police arrested the accused.
