Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh declared Open Defecation Free

A total of 2,77,314 individual toilets have been constructed in the district in the 2017-18 financial year and so far 3,80,339 toilets have been constructed.

CHITTOOR: A total of 2,77,314 individual toilets have been constructed in the district in the 2017-18 financial year and so far 3,80,339 toilets have been constructed with Rs 541.92 crore and the district is Open Defecation Free (ODF) District, Collector PS Pradyumna announced.

Speaking to the media, on Sunday, he said that there was a silent strength working and one felt the silent revolution among the public on the construction of individual toilets which fraternize with their self-respect and have achieved the target.

“April 1st is also the day of emergence of the District in 1911, so the same day, the district is declared as ODF district,” he said and added that it was a record, that during March, 92,266 toilets were constructed, in February 62, 283 and in January 39,522 toilets.

The collector said that with this constructions, Chittoor District stood first in the country, followed by Gorakhpur, UP, in 2nd place, Sitamarhi, in 3rd place and Sasaram in 4th place (Both in Bihar) and Mushirabad, West Bengal, in 5th place. Pradyumna showed the concerned list received from the Central Government.
