GUNTUR: Demanding release of water from Nagarjunasagar dam for irrigation in Guntur and Prakasam districts, the CPI has called for a dharna on Monday.

Leaders of the CPI and Rythu Sangam will take part in the protest near the Collectorate. J Ajay Kumar, CPI district secretary, and Musunuru Ramesh Babu, district general secretary of the farmers’ union, alleged the State government had not released water for irrigation at the districts for the last three years.

“We demand water for 11 lakh acres of agricultural land in Guntur and Prakasam districts,” they said.
In 2014-15, the government had released 159 tmc of water from the dam, CPI leaders said.
