Andhra Pradesh honour killing: Man murders daughter for falling in love with dalit boy

Papaiah had a fight with his daughter on Sunday night, after which he allegedly hanged her to death in the house.

VIJAYAWADA: In a suspected case of honour killing, a man killed his 20-year daughter and completed her final rites hurriedly in the wee hours of Monday in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place at Nagireddypalli of Komarolu mandal, said officials. 

According to information reaching here, Indraja was in love with a youngster belonging to SC community from the same village.

Her father, K Papaiah, a constable who had returned to the village from Hyderabad after retirement, was opposed to the love affair. 

According to villagers, the duo used to have frequent quarrels over the issue as Papaiah wanted Indraja to marry someone from their community only. They added that Papaiah had a fight with his daughter on Sunday night also, after which he allegedly hanged her to death in the house.

On Monday morning, he hurriedly shifted Indraja's body to the graveyard on the village outskirts and performed her last rites. He told villagers that Indraja hanged herself to death around 1 am, but suspecting a foul play, villagers informed the police. The police rushed to the village and took Papaiah into custody for investigation.
