VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP MPs Tanuja Rani and Gurumoorthy accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of reducing governance to ‘credit theft’ by claiming Bhogapuram Airport as his achievement.
They said the project’s crucial milestones — land acquisition, compensation, statutory approvals, and removal of legal hurdles — were completed under the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government, with farmers’ sacrifices making the airport possible.
Tanuja Rani criticised Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar for ‘distorting history,’ noting he was abroad when the works were executed. She challenged the TDP to a debate in Parliament, asserting that official records show 86% of the airport works were completed during Jagan’s tenure. She also questioned the `300 crore spent on International Yoga events, asking what benefit such publicity brought to tribal communities.
Gurumoorthy added that the runway was built under Jagan’s government, while TDP leaders were now ‘cutting ribbons and claiming credit.’ He recalled that the earlier TDP plan to acquire 15,000 acres sparked fear among farmers and fishermen, leading to court cases cleared only in 2022.
