VIJAYAWADA: Former chief minister and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has mounted a sharp attack on the NDA-led Andhra Pradesh government, citing official UDISE+ (Unified District Information System for Education) figures to dispute claims that students are moving from private to government schools.
In a detailed post on X, the YSRCP chief pointed to data comparing the 2023–24 academic year — the final year of his administration — with 2025–26, arguing that public school enrolment has actually dropped sharply while private school numbers have climbed.
Countering the state government’s claims that over 1.10 lakh pupils transitioned from private to state-run schools, Jagan Mohan Reddy cited UDISE+ metrics to highlight a contrasting trend. Public school student strength fell from 40,50,116 in AY 2023–24 to 34,93,450 in AY 2025–26, marking a net decline of 5,56,666 students.
Over the same period, the total number of government schools dropped from 45,000 to 44,222, while government-aided institutions decreased from 991 to 797. Conversely, enrolment across private management institutions expanded from 45,53,380 to 48,40,296 students.
The YSRCP president alleged that the administration led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is systematically weakening the public education sector to benefit corporate school networks like Narayana, Sri Chaitanya, Bhashyam, Vignan and GITAM.
