KURNOOL: Factional violence resurfaced in Kandanathi village of Yemmiganur mandal on Monday, leaving two dead and four seriously injured in a brutal revenge attack.

Rivals allegedly ambushed members of the same family with hunting sickles and axes. Paramesh (36) was attacked in agricultural fields, while Venkatesh (38) was assaulted inside his house. Both succumbed to severe injuries at the scene.

The injured include Govindu, his wife Veereshamma, their son Lokendra, and Paramesh’s wife Jayalakshmi. Three were shifted to Kurnool Government General Hospital, while Jayalakshmi is undergoing treatment at Yemmiganur Government Hospital.

Police said the victims were accused in a double murder case registered last year. On February 21, 2024, Narasimhulu and Ravi were killed during Devara festival celebrations following disputes over farmland and drinking water taps.

A case (Crime No. 41/2024) was filed with 12 accused, including Govindu (A1), Venkatesh (A3), and Paramesh (A6).

Sources said families of the accused had stayed away from the village for months and returned during Dasara. On Monday, Jayalakshmi alleged that Dubba Narasimhulu, Sukkodu, Chandra, Naresh, Lakshmayya and others carried out the assault.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikranth Patil and Yemmiganur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhargavi visited the crime scene, reviewed the situation, and initiated a detailed inquiry. Heavy police security has been deployed as tension prevails in the village.

Speaking with TNIE, DSP Bhargavi, Yemmiganur, said, a case has been registered and a detailed inquiry initiated. She added that primary investigation indicates the motive was old disputes between the two groups dating back to last year.
