Two suffocate to death after godown catches fire in Delhi

A woman and her teenaged daughter suffocated to death after a fire broke out at a godown in west Delhi's Nihal Vihar area today, a fire department official said.

NEW DELHI: A woman and her teenaged daughter suffocated to death after a fire broke out at a godown in west Delhi's Nihal Vihar area today, a fire department official said.

The deceased were identified as Perminder Kaur (43) and Harinder Kaur (15), the official added.

The department received a call at around 7 am about a fire at a foam godown of a building in Nihal Vihar, the upper floors of which were used for residential purposes, he said.

"Eleven fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Within three hours the fire was doused," he added.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, the official said.
