NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday carried out search operations at the residence of AAP leader Deepak Singla, likely in connection with a money laundering probe linked to allegations of bank fraud.

ED searches were carried out on premises linked to AAP leader Deepak Singla in a money laundering case linked to a bank fraud case. Searches were carried out by ED Chandigarh Zonal Office, sources said. Searches continued till late on Wednesday, they added.

The raid on the AAP leader’s residence by the ED comes six days after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the central probe agency and subsequently remanded to its custody until March 28 by the PMLA special court.

Singla, a former AAP candidate, had contested elections from Delhi’s Vishwas Nagar Assembly seat under the AAP banner. Apart from his political endeavours, Singla also holds key roles within the party hierarchy, serving as the AAP’s in-charge for Goa and co-incharge of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The ED had told the Rouse Avenue Court that Kejriwal had been intrinsically involved in the entire conspiracy behind the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, with the policy drafted and implemented in a manner that certain private players were favoured and benefitted as quid pro quo for receiving kickbacks. As per the ED, proceeds of crime to the tune of `45 crore were used in AAP’s election campaign for Goa.

Reacting to the development, Congress leader Pawan Khera said the people have now lost their trust in such investigating agencies. “All our questions have been proven right that we have raised on these agencies,” he said.
