NEW DELHI: Indian Oil Corporation Limited on Thursday dismissed reports of an LPG shortage at Delhi University’s Miranda House, calling them “misleading” amid protests by hostel residents over food concerns.
In a X post, the oil company said, “Reports claiming LPG shortage at #Miranda House are misleading. The current issue mainly relates to hostel food quality and not LPG supply. Supplies are being ensured without disruption. Deliveries to hospitals and educational institutions are prioritised.”
The clarification followed viral videos showing students protesting inside the hostel, banging utensils and raising slogans over poor food quality and inadequate portions. Some residents linked the issue to a perceived LPG shortage affecting cooking arrangements.
However, the college administration refuted these claims, maintaining that there was no disruption in LPG supply. Officials said the protest stemmed from complaints about overly spicy food rather than any shortage of cooking fuel. The episode has triggered debate over hostel management and accountability.
