BANGALORE: The few members of Vishwabharathi House Building Co-operative Society (VHBCS) who formed the IV Phase Niveshana Vanchita Sadasyara Sangha (NVSS) appealed to the state government to intervene in the multi-crore VHBCS housing scam and book the perpetrators under the law.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, NVSS member T M Suryanarayan said that,"It's high time that the government cracksdown on the society's misdeeds and cheating." VHBCS is in the midst of controversy from the day it started its IV Phase in Girinagar in Bangalore 30 years ago. "VHBCS president B Krishna Bhat has swindled money of thousands of society members amounting to more than Rs 500 crore. He executed the sale deeds to members 15 to 20 years back without even having land in the name of society,'' Suryanarayan alleged.

The members heaved a sigh of relief when the government intervened to resolve the dispute between the society and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) by directing BDA to release land to society on bulk allotment and advised the society to allot sites to genuine members. In view of this GO, the HC also disposed off all pending writ petitions.

However, this sigh of relief turned out to be a momentary one. "Subsequently, members paid further money as demanded by the society and waited for taking possession of the site. But the society has sold the sites at market price to juniors and nonmembers for huge considerations,'' said another grief-stricken member B P Ravikumar.

Alleging that the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye towards the illegal activities of the society, a member Anand Giri added that even MLAs such as Anitha Kumaraswamy, V Somanna and MLC S M Shankar have illegally taken sites in the society.
