New V-C appointed For KSWU

BANGALORE: Governor H R Bhardwaj on Thursday announced the appointment of Dr Meena Rajiv Chandavarkar as the new Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Women’s University (KSWU).

Her term will last for a period of four years with effect from the date of her joining. Dr Meena succeeded Prof Geetha Bali, who retired on January 28, 2011.

Dr Meena completed her PhD from Karnataka University in Human Resource Development and served as the principal of SRN Arts and MBS    Commerce College, Bagalkot for 15 years.

She was the Director   of UGC Academic Staff College at Karnataka  University.

On her appointment as the new V-C, she said, “I have always dreamt of becoming the V-C of the Women’s University.It is a dream come true. Although I was born and brought up in Mumbai, I have stayed in Bagalkot for 30 years.” She said since she had been in Bagalkot for a long time she knew the  pulse of the  people there.

She added that she was sure  to contribute constructively within her     capacity.

Dr Meena said added that her top priority would be the empowerment of girls in the Bijapur region and bring out their talents.

 “From my experience as a principal, I have observed that girls here lack street-smartness. As V-C, I want to tap into the talents of girls and focus on their soft skill development,” said Dr Meena.
